“The wine that put Restless River on the map initially, and year after year produce an astounding wine of pure class. The 2019 can be summed up as dense and concentrated, yet fresh and elegant.
The two vineyards, Main Road and Dignity is harvested and vinified seperately for 2 years, before blending. 2019 had a longer cooler ripening period and in the H&A the acids did not drop out during this longer hang time. In fact, TA ended on about 6g/l, which contributes to the freshness and longevity of the wine. Tannin structure also benefits from the longer hang time, making it softer from the start.
Tobacco spice, rosemary and juniper berry with a touch of gentle butterscotch. A wine that grabs your attention and impresses from the first sip. It has an intense and persistent finish.
We say this every year. Put this one away for a few years, in fact many years if you have the patience. It’s in for the long run. We suggest you start drinking from 2026 onwards.” – says Corlien

Craig and Anne Wessels started planting vines in 1999 and since have become well known as one of the premium producers in the valley. The valley is well renowned for its cooler climate and the Wessels believe it is fundamental that their vines reflect this distinctive, marginal environment in which they grow; passing their unique characteristics onto the grapes, and ultimately, the wine.
