Youthfully tinged, deep ruby in appearance. Crunchy fennel and oregano notes pair well with ripe Merlot fruit providing a complex blend of aromas. Subtle notes of wood spice provide an aromatic lift – dense and smooth textured, the finish savoury.
The Jan Boland Coetzee pays homage to the founder of Vriesenhof and embodies a lifetime of his observation and wisdom accumulated amongst the vines.
The components are vinified separately, and the blend is assembled after 4 months. Merlot (49%), Cabernet Sauvignon (28%) and Cabernet Franc (23%) all from Stellenbosch, The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. A combination of 2nd /3rd and 4th fill barrels were used.
