Thistle & Weed Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc 2023

R394.00

This heritage bush vine vineyard, planted in 1961 is well-established in a duplex sand and clay soil. Careful canopy management and pruning ensures the crop is balanced, the vines are tended to and longevity ensured.

The grapes were delicately whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented in older French oak barrels, only the free run juice was used. The wine matured on the lees for 9 months prior to bottling, unfined and unfiltered.

Notes of tangerine, tangy grapefruit zest and the versatile charm of pineapple in all its forms – from sun-dried aromas to youthful green flavours. An effortless combination of layered creaminess with a refreshing and lively finish.

Description

The team of Stephanie Wiid and Etienne Terblanche is responsible for some of the most exciting wines in South Africa currently. Etienne, the guru in the vineyards and Stephanie the guiding angel in the cellar.

The first vintage of Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc was 2016 and quickly grabbed the attention of the wine world by achieving a 5 Star rating in the Platters Guide. Every following vintage followed in the footsteps, receiving the same top accolade and also increased high scoring from people like Tim Atkin.

Inspired and named after the Duwweltjies (Tribulus terrestris – Devils thorns) growing in the vineyard that cling to the soles of your shoes—reminders of paths travelled and those yet to be explored. This Chenin blanc is sourced from a heritage bush vine vineyard, planted in 1961, on the north western tip of the Muldersvlei bowl in Paarl.
