The complex stony soils, together with a warm dry climate moderated by constant sea breezes provides an ideal terroir to produce something unique. All vines are grown as bush vines due to the exceptional low yield and vigour. A quarter of a ha, planted in 2017, and already so at home. Can handle wind and has been producing very well.
Handpicked and sorted in the vineyards in the early morning to ensure beautiful cool grapes arrive at the cellar. Crushed and pressed with the stems, fermented in a 400L barrel, older oak. Left on the lees for a short period, 6 months, and bottled in July. Unfined and unfiltered, bottled by hand.
Light yellow colour in the glass. Super fresh, fruity nose, almost like a good blend of a richer Sauvignon blanc and a light styled Chenin blanc. Zesty citrus nose, with hints of rosemary, fennel and clove.
The palate is fresh, zesty, and heaps of minerality, meets white stone fruit and citrus. The acidity is alive and so refreshing.
It is really expressive of the area and it captures the cooler dry area of Malgas.
ANALYSIS: Alc. 12.8% | RS 1,3 g/l | TA 5,4 g/l | pH 3,47
“The focus has always been on our signature Red and White blends since our first vintage in 2007. Producing the very best expression of each vintage with the exceptional fruit we get from our extra ordinary vineyard and the many well adapted varieties we’ve planted.
We have become increasingly excited with many of these varieties and how they express themselves in our Malgas environment on their own. So, we’ve bottled a few to share with you what we find so exciting in the barrel. Just two or three barrels of each.” – Charla Haasbroek, winemaker 2015 – 2025
