The Eden High Density Single Vineyard is the heart of Raats Family Wines. In fact it is their finest expression of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc and has globally achieved cult wine status.
The wine’s inviting nose displays lime, green apple, with white peach and pineapple. Here subtle spices of ginger, angelica and white pepper are entwined with florals of peach blossom and honeysuckle. The palate shows further fruit depth with quince, kumquat, mandarin orange and pear, against a backdrop of steely minerals. Hints of roasted hazelnuts and almonds add to the complexity of the palate. The wine is exceptionally linear and fresh with a fine texture and finishes with notes of fennel and the ginger spiciness promised by the nose.
Grapes were whole bunch pressed to tank, where natural cold settling took place, from here the juice was racked to its fermentation vessel. The natural fermentation took place in concrete egg, about 65% of the wine, while the balance fermented in French oak barrels. The wine was kept on its lees for 11 months in concrete and oak barrels, before the wine was prepared for bottling

Bruwer Raats founded Raats Family Wines in 2000, and since then has narrowed his focus on Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, with only one blend, The Jasper Red blend. He believed that specialising would lead to success, and this belief was not unfounded, as today, Raats Family Wines is regarded as a leader of South African Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Raats has received consistent local and international accolades and was named Winery of the Year for the 2018 Platter’s Guide with 5 out of 6 wines achieving five-star ratings. As Neal Martin says, ‘Cabernet Franc does not get better than at Raats’
