Mullineux Granite Eikelaan Chenin Blanc 2024

R850.00

From a 47 year old parcel of sustainably and dry farmed bush vines planted in the decomposed Granite soils of the Paardeberg. This is our highest altitude Granite soil vineyard on the Paardeberg from which we expect our most elevated perceived freshness, flintiness and blossom-like perfume. This contributes towards linear ageing, due to the decomposed soils allowing for the deepest root formation, and therefore the fullest and coolest vineyard canopy of all our sites.

Natural fermentation in oak barrels then left in barrels, on its lees, until spring, during which time malolactic fermentation has completed. The barrels are racked and blended just before the following vintage and bottled unfiltered.

Description

Mullineux was established in 2007, when Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in the Swartland wine region, 60 kilometers north of Cape Town. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. By 2023 the winery had received fifty 5-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide, as well as being awarded  Platter’s Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times in 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2023.

In addition, Andrea was named Wine Enthusiast’s 2016 International Winemaker of the Year and in 2016 Chris & Andrea were Tim Atkin’s South African Winemakers of the Year.

Three main soil types have evolved in the Swartland from the parent materials that dominate the area, these are shale/schist-, granite- and iron-based soils; each with very different characteristics and therefore creating unique growing conditions.

The single terroir wines are expressions of a sense of place in the purest form possible. It’s not easy to pick a favourite, and that’s not the intention. It really is about showcasing how, with the exact same winemaking in the cellar, different vineyards express themselves individually, based on external influences in the soil and climate. To honour each producer, the name of the farm is proudly displayed on each label.
