Koelfontein Chardonnay 2023

R180.00

This single vineyard is planted on the Eastern slopes in the coolest corner of the farm, right next to the natural spring the farm is named after. Facing the Waboomberg, named after the protea trees that grow in abundance on these slopes and beautifully depicted on the label. The mountain often gets a white snow coating in winter, which benefits the fertility of the vines.

Wholebunch pressed, fermented and aged in 300L and 500L French oak of which approximately 20% new. The process is managed as naturally as possible with no yeast, ensymes or SO2 added. After 9 months the wine is bottled in the early summer months.

The nose is pure and complex with soft notes of pineapple, toasted hazelnut, lemon curd and frangipane. The palate is refined and balanced with fresh lime acidity. The finish reveals layers of white nectarine fruit and delicate herbs.
