Raoul Beaumont, was a maverick of vineyards and motorcycles. His early life took him around the world (mostly by sailing boat) but eventually he returned to the Cape where he and Jayne purchased the old wine farm Compagnes Drift in 1974. He immediately started replanting the vineyards to mostly white cultivars and a small amount of Pinotage and Tinta Barocca. Then in the 1990’s he started experimenting with other red cultivars like Syrah, Mourvedre, Cabernet franc, and Grenache to see what would ultimately work best on the property. As a true farmer, Raoul, was never impressed by the bling that surrounded wine and rather saw it as an essential ingredient to everyday life.
This blend honors Raoul’s down to earth enjoyment of wine. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache blend complimented with small portions of Cabernet franc and Malbec that bring balance and interest.
Raoul used to say: “At the end of a long day it doesn’t get better than this!”

Beaumont is a family owned and managed wine farm situated in the heart of the town of Bot River (“Botter Rivier”) in the Overberg.
The farm, home to the region’s oldest wine cellar, was originally established in the 1700s by the Dutch East India Company as a supply farm producing fruit, vegetables, dairy, wine and flour.
The historic farm offers quintessential Overberg architecture with barns and homesteads. Three of the original buildings have been beautifully restored as quaint self-catering cottages and the farm is home to one of the oldest working watermills in the country.
