Mullineux Old Vines White 2024

R498.00

Upfront aromas of fresh stone fruit and lightly poached pear follow through to a complex palate with layers of yellow grapefruit and nectarines, a vibrant acidity and hints of ginger and citrus-esque galangal on the finish. This wine is best served at 10 to 12 °C and will benefit from ageing. Predominantly Chenin Blanc, followed by Semillon, Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. The Chenin sourced from old, dry-farmed vines bring great texture to the wine, whilst the Semillon and Viognier provide opulent aromatics, and the Clairette and Grenache contribute a welcoming freshness and salinity. After the 2 relatively cool, slow and late vintages we experienced in 2022 and 2023, the 2024 vintage was more classic for the Swartland with some pretty warm days across the whole growing season. This brought out the textural side in our 2024 Old Vines White.

This young wine is drinking well upon release, but will benefit with some bottle aging.

Description

Pressed whole-bunch, then the juice is racked to barrel for fermentation with indigenous yeasts and lasts up to 8 weeks. The wine is left without additional sulphur on its lees until spring. During this time the wine has finished malolactic fermentation. The barrels are racked and blended just before the following vintage and bottled unfiltered.
