The ripening phase of our IRON Chenin Blanc bush vine vineyard is always ahead of our other single terroir Chenin Blancs and the 2025 vintage was no different, producing the steadfast natural extract, balanced acidity and alluring texture that we’ve grown accustomed to receiving from the Koffieklip soils where these vines live. This parcel, situated on the rolling hills outside of Malmesbury, enjoys cool nights and mild days during the growing season, which further contributes to the small and concentrated grapes of this Chenin Blanc.
This vintage being only the second ever release of the IRON Chenin Blanc, was managed in the cellar with the same attention to detail and careful handling of the delicate and tiny yield, as all our other wines. Both the primary and secondary fermentations spontaneously started and finished with indigenous yeast and a very small amount of Sulphur was added once the natural settling of the wine had completed.
This wine was matured for 11 months in 4th fill 225L French oak barrels.

Mullineux was established in 2007, when Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in the Swartland wine region, 60 kilometers north of Cape Town. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. By 2023 the winery had received fifty 5-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide, as well as being awarded Platter’s Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times in 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2023.
In addition, Andrea was named Wine Enthusiast’s 2016 International Winemaker of the Year and in 2016 Chris & Andrea were Tim Atkin’s South African Winemakers of the Year.
Three main soil types have evolved in the Swartland from the parent materials that dominate the area, these are shale/schist-, granite- and iron-based soils; each with very different characteristics and therefore creating unique growing conditions.
The single terroir wines are expressions of a sense of place in the purest form possible. It’s not easy to pick a favourite, and that’s not the intention. It really is about showcasing how, with the exact same winemaking in the cellar, different vineyards express themselves individually, based on external influences in the soil and climate. To honour each producer, the name of the farm is proudly displayed on each label.
