Moya Meaker W.O. Elgin Pinot Noir 2024

R350.00

The 2024 Pinot Noir opens with lifted aromatics of musk candy, pink rose petals, and blood orange. A savoury line weaves quietly beneath — hints of fynbos and a waft of white pepper grounding the perfume.

The palate is pure and precise: tart red cherry and more blood orange drive the fruit, shaped by a fine but firm tannic frame. Citrus and raspberry acidity lend freshness and length, while the subtle herbal thread adds a touch of mystery. There’s a superb tension between the two sides of Pinot Noir’s duplicitous nature.

Description

Marrying Old World refinement with New World vivaciousness, this handcrafted wine pays tribute to the memory of Moya Meaker, a woman whose sophistication and elegance remains our guiding light.

Elgin is a valley in the sky; a lofty plateau hemmed in by mountains, covered by a blanket of clouds, cooled by ocean breezes, and couched in soils of shale over clay. This wine haven is South Africa’s coolest wine region and home to some of its most celebrated Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

When David and Genevieve Curl purchased an apple farm in the Elgin valley in 2010, they immediately planted a 3.12-hectare parcel of Pinot Noir on a ridge with ancient of clay-rich Bokkeveld shale. Clones 667 and 777 on rootstock 101-14 were chosen to capitalise on Elgin’s cool climate terroir. Focused on the ultimate goal of crafting small quantities of premium Pinot Noir, the vineyard’s planting density of 6250 vines per hectare encourages stiff competition between the vines, resulting in better flavour and concentration in the fruit.
