Shaped by the beneficial influence of the maritime climate on this classic Stellenbosch terroir, the wine reveals layered aromas of perfumed nasturtium and freshly cut lime. The palate is vibrant and precise, offering flavours of crisp yellow stone fruit, complemented by a subtle flinty salinity and a textured, generous finish. Best served at 10–12°C, it shows beautifully on release and will continue to evolve with careful cellaring over 15 to 20 years.

Since 2013, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have been working on a new project that focuses on vineyards outside of the Swartland appellation which have been specially selected by Rosa Kruger. Together with their partner Analijt Singh they launched their game changing Leeu Passant wines. Produced from old vines, including the oldest registered red wine vineyard in South Africa, these wines redefine the South African wine landscape. Their inspiration comes from past successes of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, like Château Libertas and Rustenberg Dry Red. Their wines speak of South Africa’s heritage and bring the unique wines of the past into the future.
This extraordinary Chardonnay site is situated on the high gravelly slopes of the Helderberg Mountain and in near proximity to False Bay, the cold Atlantic Ocean. Planted at 400m, it therefore benefits from the maritime influenced breezes cool days and mild nights of the area, which brings an incredible intensity and freshness to the wine. The outstanding 2023 vintage highlighted this vineyard’s great balance of palate texture and outstanding natural acidity.
