Kaapzicht Estate proudly presents the 2024 vintage of The 1947 Chenin Blanc, a wine that captures the essence of South Africa’s old-vine legacy and continues to set the benchmark for premium Chenin.
Planted in 1947 by Danie Steytler Inr’s great-grandfather, this block of dryland bush vines is the second oldest Chenin Blane vineyard in South Africa. Over seven decades later, just 1.1 hectares of this vineyard remain, yielding tiny volumes of intensely concentrated fruit.
“Yields were challengingly low, at least in economic terms, at three tons per hectare, but the resulting wine is as poised and well balanced as ever. Now fermented and aged in a combination of 10% new oak and ceramic amphoras, this has ample old-vine concentration, stony acidity and flavours of pear, peach and pineapple.” – Tim Atkin MW
