Du Bois Sonop Chenin Blanc 2025

R440.00

These heritage bush vines were planted in 1982 and 1986 on the northeastern slopes of Sonop Hill. Rising above Koelenhof at 240m to 280m, they grow in red and blue shale soils with fractured clay beneath, allowing deep root penetration, steady moisture uptake and natural fruit lift.

The 2025 growing season was marked by cool, moderate conditions, very little wind and exceptionally low disease pressure. Good winter and spring rainfall replenished reserves, while cool day and night temperatures encouraged slow, even ripening.

2025 stands apart as a vintage of real quality. The result is fruit defined by freshness, vibrant acidity and natural balance.

Pale gold in the glass, the wine opens with a perfume of white flowers and delicate peach, alongside a subtle, savoury, spice-driven complexity.

The palate offers white pear, green apple, grapefruit and peach, sharpened by a saline edge and a bright limegreen freshness. Nuances of ginger, cloves and a gravelly minerality emerge, hallmarks of this remarkable corner of Stellenbosch.

A wine of complexity and contrast, it blossoms from restrained beginnings to a structured generosity of fruit, lifted by an electric acidity and signature mouth-coating old vineyard texture.

Built to age, it’s a wine to cellar, reflect on and share.

Description

From growers to vignerons, the Du Bois Family has cemented their place as one of the best grape growers in Stellenbosch.

After 9 decades of growing grapes for co-operative cellars and independent winemakers, they launched their first wine made by themselves.
Jacques and Gabriel Du Bois, 4th generation Du Bois on Sonop farm, has ushered in the new era for the family. Some vineyards were planted by their grandfather and father and now they are taking the role of custodians and planting more vineyards for future generations. Caring for the old vineyards has paid off as the A-listers of winemakers have been buying from them for some time.

Jacques is taking the lead on the farm and Gabriel is making the wines after graduating from Elsenburg and making wine under the masterful hand of Chris Alheit. Capturing the essence of this special sight is the aim and they are mastering this very well.
