This wine exhibits a saturated magenta color and offers an expressive bouquet of red and dark berries, smoked meat, olives, and floral notes. On the palate, it is sappy and penetrating, showcasing flavors of cherry-cola, blackberry, and baking spices with excellent detail and a mineral-driven lift towards the finish. The wine has a long and subtly chewy finish, with persistent smokiness, well-integrated tannins, and harmonious persistence. Situated in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, the largest in the Northern Rhône, the vineyards benefit from a diverse range of soils, including sandy areas. This diversity contributes to the complexity and character of the wine. Grapes are fermented with stems (20-30%) for three weeks in stainless steel vats, preceded by sulphur-free cold maceration.

Domaine Alain Graillot is the undisputed king of Crozes-Hermitage. Having consistently produced an honest reflection of the Northern Rhône for 25 years, Alain’s son Maxime Graillot took over from him in 2008. The wines however are still made in an elegant, old-school style. Favouring savouriness and fragrance over oak and sweetness, whole bunch fermentation is key with the Graillot’s organically-farmed, old vine Syrah. Crozes-Hermitage is the largest appellation in the Northern Rhône and stretches from the back end of Hermitage hill over flatter and more sandy soils.
Alain sadly passed away in 2022, but his legacy will live on, thanks to his son Maxime who is continuing his fathers great passion. Alain was responsible for revolutionising the expectations of Crozes, the “flatlands” that he farmed as if it was Hermitage Hill. His first love was Burgundy, but he bought this piece of land from an old lady about 30 years ago and started on a unique journey. It’s as if he managed to give Crozes the elegant touch of Burgundy.
