Some interesting facts about Elgin are:

1.) 80% of the agricultural planting in the Elgin Valley are still apples & pears

2.) In Total there are just under 800 ha of vines planted with an average age of 9-15 years old, making it a young wine region

3.) It is found 70km east of Cape Town and is a cool climate, high inland plateau surrounded by mountains.

4.) Their elevation is 260-500m above sea level with an average annual rainfall of 1011mm

5.) The main soil types consist of Table Mountain Sandstone and Bokkeveld Shale
