Painted Wolf Wines began with two passions: winemaking and the conservation of Africa’s endangered wild dogs. Emma and Jeremy Borg founded the company in 2006, with Jeremy pursuing his craft as a winemaker while the business helped raise funds for conservation. Since then, Painted Wolf has donated more than R4m to wild dog and related conservation projects.
The wines themselves are distinctly South African, with a particular focus on Chenin Blanc and Pinotage. Jeremy also works with other varietals such as Shiraz and Rhone cultivars that thrive in our warm climate conditions. His approach is thoughtful and hands-on, with each vineyard and vintage guiding the winemaking rather than following a fixed recipe.
The result is a collection of expressive wines with plenty of character. And there is something rather special about enjoying a good glass of wine while knowing that it is also helping protect one of Africa’s most remarkable animals.
