Grangehurst Winery is a boutique, family-run cellar founded in 1992 by winemaker Jeremy Walker, built on the philosophy of “handcrafted, traditional, unhurried” winemaking. What started as a squash court converted into a cellar has evolved into one of Stellenbosch’s quiet stalwarts of classic red wine, producing age-worthy Bordeaux-style blends and Pinotage with a strong focus on structure, longevity, and old-school techniques like open fermentation and manual punch-downs.
Spioenkop Wines is a cool-climate, terroir-driven estate founded by Koen Roose, known for its rebellious spirit and unconventional approach to Elgin winemaking. Perched on a rugged hillside, the estate produces striking, often experimental wines — from Riesling and Chenin to Pinotage — with a strong emphasis on site expression, precision, and individuality, often pushing beyond what the region is traditionally known for.
Strydom Family Wines is a lesser-known, small-scale producer that embodies the artisanal side of South African wine, typically focused on low-intervention winemaking and limited releases. Wines from Strydom tend to prioritise purity, site expression, and minimal handling, often appealing to sommeliers and collectors looking for authentic, under-the-radar bottles that reflect both place and personality rather than commercial polish.
