Vulpes Wines The Cape Fox Chenin Blanc 2022

From the Swartland (Paardeberg) comes this beautifully fresh 100% Chenin Blanc from two different blocks of unirrigated goblet/bush vines on weathered granite. The two blocks of grapes were pressed together, wholebunch, on a three hour Cremant press cycle. The hard press fraction was separated from the best must. The must was settled overnight without any products, and then racked the following day, into the 4th filled 300L French barrels, where spontaneous natural fermentation occurred and completed the fermentation. Once the fermentation was complete, the barrels were topped and left to settle. In May 2022, the barrels were racked off the gross lees, sulphured and put back into barrel. The wine was bottled in October 2022 and left to rest in bottle until being released on the 11th of November 2023.

“Nuschka de Vos made her name at Reyneke and has now released her first white under The Cape Fox label. Produced with grapes from two Swartland vineyards – Jakkalsfontein and Sky – with a marked granite component, it’s a salty, intense, focused delight, shimmering with acidity and vibrancy and exhibiting mouth-watering green apple, lime and lemongrass flavours. A brand to keep an eye on.” – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 94/100

“I was brought up on a small organic farm in the Western Cape, where good food, good wine and good company were both appreciated and regularly indulged in. Laughter and conversation, the chink of cutlery and the clinking of wineglasses were a familiar and enjoyable soundtrack in our home. With this background, the choice to study viticulture and pursue a career in the wine industry was an easy and attractive one to make.

I enrolled for BSc Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University. In the months before the course began, I was also given the opportunity to work in the vineyards for the renowned Rosa Kruger who became a mentor and an inspiration to me. The more I learned and experienced, the more the allure of winemaking captured my heart and the more I wanted to find out about it. After graduating I started exploring vineyards and wineries across the globe, from the wine farms of Bordeaux, to the vineyards on the slopes of the Mosel and the wine landscapes of New Zealand, always deepening my appreciation of the art of winemaking.” – Nuschka De Vos
