Made from 100% Cinsaut planted in 1992 not too far from False Bay affectionately named “Firgrove” by the winemakers who takes grapes from the same vineyard – Scions of Sinai and Craven. This is a great example of a fresh and elegant blush wine. Small quantities of this was made in 2016 for the first time and sold out in a flash with 2017 also selling out rather quickly. This is the kind of rose that will get people back onto rosé summer drinking. Stock up and drink up! It’s summer!
Corlien says: “I love the subtle floral and citrus notes with just a touch of salinity on the perfectly dry finish. It’s light and easy, yet rewards with layers of flavour.”
It is easy to understand why Lukas van Loggerenberg was chosen as Young Winemaker of the Year in September 2018 by Tim Atkin. His wines are utterly delicious and worth of all the praise it may receive.
The short description by winemaker Lukas himself: “The soil structure of this valley is quite sandy and granitic which gives a good tannin structure to the wine. Granite brings lovely focus to the wines. What makes this farm very unique is the proximity to the ocean, it’s very close and you can feel this cool Atlantic breeze blowing in the afternoons.”
Named “Break a Leg” because on the first of January 10 minutes after midnight, approximately 2 weeks before harvest Lukas fractured his kneecap. Because of the sudden financial impact the rehabilitation process had on Lukas’ first year of his solo project David Sadie advised him to make a Blanc de Noir wine that will be ready to hit the market in July of that same year.
Making the best of the worst situation was the impetus for starting this wine and seems to be trend through all the Van Loggerenberg labels; “Trust Your Gut, “Kamraderie” and “Geronimo”.
Considered a Blanc de Noir as opposed to a Rosé seeing that there is no white grapes mixed in the wine during the making.
