The Sadie Family Treinspoor 2019

R395.00

Part of the Old Vine Series of wines by The Sadie Family, this Tinta Barocca was made with grapes from a vineyard, near Malmesbury, planted in 1974.

The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, so sediment can be expected over time. We strongly recommend putting a few bottles aside as this wine really needs a few years in bottle to show it’s true remarkable flavours. Currently it shows lots of spice, pine needles, aniseed and gun powder. It’s dense in colour and flavour and needs a serious piece of meat.

“It is no secret that we have a very high regard for the Tinta Barocca grape and that is with good reason. Year after year it is one of the mono-varietals that seriously translates “terroir” in the Swartland. We needed a few years to learn to read the extraction points and grape growing patterns of the varietal and the vineyards are in better equilibrium now. Any fan of Piedmont wines will have a greater attraction to this wine for the 2019 Treinspoor is a dark horse that needs time in the bottle and the benefit of patience. The fruit on this vintage is
pretty and it is a more drinkable early version, but I urge buyers to give it the benefit of time.” – Eben Sadie

Description

Part of the Old Vine Series of wines by The Sadie Family, this Tinta Barocca was made with grapes from a vineyard, near Malmesbury, planted in 1974.

Historically Tinta Das Baroccas (the earlier pronunciation) has always had a good and prominent place in the Swartland region. This vineyard is located next to the old railway line (treinspoor) and was named accordingly.
The very, fragile thin skin of Tinta Barocca is prone to sunburn, but in this case the old bush vines have formed a great framework to keep the bunches sheltered from the intense Swartland sun. The good colour and firm acidity of this variety have made it a great and favourite component in blends from the outset. However, once a Tinta Barocca vineyard has
grown into old age, it has all the complexities and qualities to be bottled on its own.

“In my opinion the most exciting red, but unsung hero, of the Old Vine Series”- Corlien
