Craig Wessels whole philosophy around winemaking is Burgundian. They planted this vineyard in 2013 and this is the maiden vintage from these vines. Half the crop was dropped to allow the young vines not to stress during ripening. Craig wants to understand his vineyard and the fruit coming from it before making a serious Pinot.
The aim is to make clean, well made wines without changing the vineyard DNA. The individual wines must tell their own story. The terroir is conducive to creating depth on its own, without much interference in the cellar.
Corlien says: “This is a light, savoury wine without any obvious upfront fruity notes and a nice tight grippy tannin. Rather easy to finish a bottle”
