Before you read any further, buy this wine! Trust me you won’t regret it if you do. Quantities are limited so you will regret it if your mates start talking about it and you didn’t act fast enough to get your hands on some.
Now, let’s talk about the wine.
This Chardonnay is the perfect example of elegant and fresh with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Craig says this was the first year he was really comfortable with what he was doing in the cellar with Chardonnay. They do 4-5 pickings through the vineyard and do whole bunch pressing. Natural fermentation took place in various sized oak barrels over a period of 55 days. Only 1 new barrel was used, resulting in about 5% in total. The wine spent a further 11 months sur lie before light fining and settling in tank for a further 2 months before bottling. It spent 2 years resting in the bottle before release.

Craig and Anne Wessels started planting vines in 1999 and since have become well known as one of the premium producers in the valley. The valley is well renowned for its cooler climate and the Wessels believe it is fundamental that their vines reflect this distinctive, marginal environment in which they grow; passing their unique characteristics onto the grapes, and ultimately, the wine.
