Angus Paul On a flight of furious fancies Chenin Blanc 2020

A rush of white pome fruit exits the glass along with salty sea spray notes and confected fruit – I think of yellow gummy bears. A mineral or flinty character sits beneath the fruit like chainmail, awaiting.

Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc with fruit from Karibib farm in the ever increasingly popular Polkadraai.

This is one of the 8 producers who actually make their wine in the collab cellar on Karibib farm.

Grapes are handled “the natural way” without any chemical additions and crushed straight to barrel for fermentation and left for a further 6 months.

An obviously inviting nose of peaches, melon, and spice with a musky, floral and nutty undertone.

On the palate, the melon and spice follow through with a delicious rounded, yet fresh finish. It’s a playful wine with a serious edge and utterly delicious.
