‘Easier to drink than it is to spell, let alone pronounce for a non-Afrikaans speaker, this Tinta Barocca is purchased as grapes from a neighbouring farm. Opaque, tannic and typically spicy, rich and brooding, it has flavours of damson, fig and liquorice and some added texture from 10% stems. 2022-30.’ – Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2019, 93/100
The 2017 Sk’Windjiesvlei Tinta Barroca comes from a 7ha vineyard planted in 1962 when the Portuguese variety was gaining popularity in South Africa. It has attractive wild aromas of blackberry, plum and briar. It is medium-bodied with delicious flavours of black fruits and white pepper and a fine web of tannin providing subtle grip and drive.
