DESCRIPTION:We’re finally able to host our first Masterclass since February and decided to start with a bang. \nIt’s Pinotage month and time to raise a glass to our homegrown varietal that Prof. Perold created in 1924 by crossing Cinsaut and Pinot Noir. \nL’Avenir\, which means The Future in French\, has specialised in Stellenbosch Pinotage for more than three decades. Winemaker Dirk Coetzee follows in the footsteps of L’Avenir legend\, Francois Naude\, widely known as Stellenbosch’s Pope of Pinotage. \nA new generation of winemakers has taken the varietal to new heights\, with diverse styles and terroirs resulting in renewed interest in Pinotage. With winemaking experience in Australia\, California and France\, as well as more than 10 years at the helm of L’Avenir\, Dirk is passionate about showcasing Pinotage’s versatility. \nWe shall taste a variety of styles from different regions and winemakers to unpack the potential of this heritage grape. We usually find with this kind of tasting that most people find a style that works for them. But without doubt\, those who don’t normally choose Pinotage from a shelf will find a style they like and never knew existed.
